So. The finalists and the grand prize winner were announced for The World Ends With You contest. I was really jazzed that my favorite entry got the top spot, and suprised and pleased that I managed to place as well.

But then I let myself get dragged into an internet fight. I have no idea what kind of crack I was on.

But really, a couple of things really did manage to upset me.

One was saying that the entire thing was nothing but a popularity contest.
I didn't understand that bit, particularly because at least four of the ten selected had less than 5,000 page views. One had less than 100 when I checked.
But then on top of that, someone else claimed that those people were only chosen to counterbalance the claims that only popular deviants won.

That burned my tail. Look. To imply that some of those people won out of pity was out of line to me. I lost my cool and had to leave the keyboard and calm down for a moment. Both of the entrants that placed that were below the 500 page view line submitted designs for the "lackey" monsters of the game, the noise. They weren't the flashiest of the entries, but they really looked like they'd come fresh out of the game. If I saw those designs in the official artbook for WEWY (The World Ends With You), I wouldn't bat an eyelash.

I might have chosen something different if I were a judge, I can't say for sure, but I can see no reason why they shouldn't place. It's damned good work. And insulting them by calling them something akin to placeholders is really goddamn rude.

Secondly, someone mentioned the idea that everyone should have gotten something from the contest. I think a participation award would have been an excellent idea, particularly due to the promotional nature of the contest. Something like an exclusive wallpaper, or some highres art would have been just dandy in my opinion.

But this person suggested a 6 month devart subscription for each participant.
There are over 7,000 entries! All the bandwidth that would suddenly eat is mindboggling. Plus, as put it, at 3$ per subscription, that's over 21,000 dollars worth of subscriptions as participation gifts! Yow.

There were a lot of other small things, but that really soured my stomache. There was a lot of butthurt just when this contest started up, and now there seems to be even more now that it's over.



...Anyway, I'm getting my wisdom teeth cut out in less than five hours. I'm going to go take a nap while I can.
